Getting Spammed to death

I’m not sure why but I seem to be getting a lot of spam on here. I have my settings set that you have to approved at least once by me before a post is made public and then any post that person makes after that is automatically approved and I also get a notification in my email account that there’s been a posting on one my posts as well. Lately tho I’m getting an over abundance of gibberish spam on here and every time I log in I have to go through a couple hundred posts that are simple gibberish for drugs, gambling and porn. Anyone have any idea of how to stop this permanently? It’s quite annoying and driving me nuts. I don’t have a lot of time as it is for blogs and lenses and such and when I have to go though a ton of non-sense posts like that, well makes me wonder if it’s really worth the effort at all.

People need to be logged in to leave comments, so you shouldn’t get spam. If you are, then we need to do something about it.
You could turn off comments altogether, so no one can post. That will certainly stop the spam.

I’m not having a problem with spam right now or recently. I hope yours has stopped!

Well as of this morning I had 28 more that I had to weed through to find any legit posters. Now that she’s been approved her posts will show up without me having to approve it from now but there was 27 others that was simply gibberish, they don’t show up cause it’s a first time post and I delete them. I’m also getting this error message at the bottom of everything as well
“Warning: include(stuff/stuff.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/tankdog/public_html/squidtop.com/wp-content/mu-plugins/google-analytics.php on line 120″.
There’s 3 lines of it and I haven’t a clue as to what it is.
Something else I just noticed is that when I get notification of someone posting here, if it’s a legit poster it’ll give the person’s name the spam ones I’m getting says it’s coming from Wordpress.

Molly. I’ve fixed the issue with google-analytics.php and cleaned up some other badness that had been hiding there. I’ve also added some words to the “Comment Blacklist” under your Discussion settings. Feel free to add more as you find necessary. I still need to find how these spammers are getting in.

In case no one’s told ya lately fluffy, you’re awesome!!! I didn’t even now about the blacklist before this, shows ya how much I know about Wordpress. I don’t know how you do it fluff, between making your own lenses/blogs, fixing all the problems on Squidtop, answering everyone’s questions on SquidU, making all the programs for SquidUtils to make things easier for everyone else who’s making lens, promoting your own lenses/blogs and whatever else you have going on!! Sheeeeeesh, do you ever sleep??

Glad to hear it helped. If you get any more spam comments, mark it as Spam instead of deleting it, and we’ll take a look at it.
